Biographical Sketch:
Victoria J. Fraser, M.D. Dr. Fraser is the J. William Campbell Professor of Medicine, co-director of the Infectious Diseases Division and medical director for patient safety at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Dr. Fraser earned her M.D. degree cum laude from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1983. After an internal medicine residency and then chief medical residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, she received an infectious diseases fellowship at Washington University. Known for her work in health care epidemiology, Dr. Fraser focuses on preventing and controlling nosocomial infections, adverse events and medical errors. Under her leadership, BJC HealthCare has implemented multiple infection control interventions throughout its hospitals that have significantly decreased ventilator-associated pneumonia and catheter-related bloodstream infections. She was instrumental in founding the Helena Hatch Special Care Center for Children, which provides comprehensive care to pregnant women with HIV and AIDS to help prevent babies being born HIV positive. Her research is funded by multiple awards including grants from the NIH and CDC. Dr. Fraser has over 200 publications and has been recognized for her research with awards including the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America’s Young Investigator Award in 2001 and the Neville Grant Award for Clinical Excellence in 2002. Dr. Fraser has mentored numerous trainees that have gone on to careers in academic medicine and has developed specific coursework for trainees on beginning clinical research careers. She has received a Distinguished Service Teaching Award (2004 2005) and Academic Women’s Network Mentoring Award (2004). She is the Director of the Clinical Research Training Center and Co-PI of the CTSA Award.
