Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Lindsay Nicolle is Professor of Internal Medicine and Medical Microbiology at the University of Manitoba and Consultant in Adult Infectious Diseases at the Health Sciences Centre and Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. She has over 15 years experience directing infection control programs at tertiary care teaching hospitals in Winnipeg and Calgary, and as a member or chair of Antimicrobial Review Committees and Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committees. During a sabbatical at the World Health Organization in 2001, she participated in development of the Global Strategy for Antimicrobial Resistance. Dr. Nicolle’s research interests have been in urinary tract infection, hospital acquired infections and infections in the elderly, and she has published extensively on these topics. She has contributed to development of many national and international position papers, consensus documents and practice guidelines addressing infection control in health care and management of infectious diseases. Dr. Nicolle was chair of the Health Canada Nosocomial Infections Steering Committee from 1994 to 2005 and has participated in other Health Canada Committees including those addressing pandemic influenza planning, SARS, and West Nile virus. Other contributions include past President of the Canadian Infectious Diseases Society, previous member of the Boards of the Community and Hospital Infection Control Association and the Canadian Society for Clinical Investigation, and previous co-chair and founder of the Canadian Nosocomial Infection Surveillance Program. Dr. Nicolle is past chair of the Long Term Care Committee, and Annual Meeting Planning Committee and past secretary of the Society of Health Care Epidemiology of America. She is also a past member of the American Society of Microbiology ICAAC Program Planning Committee. She is presently chair of the Expert Advisory Committee on Blood Regulation of Health Canada, and member of the Canadian Expert Drug Advisory Committee.
