Biographical Sketch:
Sue Barnes is the National Leader for Infection Prevention for Kaiser Permanente’s 8 regions, 35 hospitals and 431 medical offices. She has been with KP and in the field of Infection Prevention since 1989. She has recently led or contributed the development of the APIC Guide to Elimination of CRBSI, APIC Guide to the Elimination of Infections in Hemodialysis, and Training Program for Infection Prevention in Ambulatory Care. She is a subject matter expert consultant to a number of Kaiser Permanente teams and facilitates a number of others. Recent speaking engagements have included the International APIC Futures Summit, the SFBA APIC Chapter, the Portland Oregon APIC Chapter, numerous national KP videoconferences, and ECRI (Emergency Care Research Institute). These presentations have included topics such as SSI (surgical site infection) prevention, IC mentoring, Scope reprocessing, Hand Hygiene, Vascular Access and BSI (bloodstream infection) Prevention. In addition Sue has made numerous presentations to the annual International APIC Conferences and has been published in journals including American Journal of Infection Control, The Joint Commission Source for Compliance Strategies and The Permanente Journal. She is currently the President of the SFBA (San Francisco Bay Area) APIC (Association for Professionals in Infection Prevention and Control) chapter.
