Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Trick is the co-director of the Collaborative Research Unit in the Department of Medicine at Stroger Hospital of Cook County, Chicago. He is an attending physician who provides inpatient care to patients hospitalized on the general medicine service. Before joining the Collaborative Research Unit, Dr. Trick was an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer with the Hospital Infections Program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and subsequently worked as a medical epidemiologist with the Health Outcomes Branch in the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion. Dr. Trick’s clinical interests include optimizing use of the electronic medical record to improve patient care; for example, as a member of the decision support committee, he has developed logic for rules to improve inpatient immunization practices. His research interests include using data stored in the electronic medical record to improve the quality of care delivered, to automate monitoring the quality of care, such as infection detection, and to automate reporting of notifiable conditions to public health agencies.
