Biographical Sketch: Dr. Milstone received his undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT. He completed his postgraduate training in pediatrics at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and then his fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Johns Hopkins University. He has worked with the Johns Hopkins Hospital Department of Hospital Epidemiology and Infection Control since 2006. He joined the faculty in the Department of Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins in 2007. In May 2009 he received his Master of Health Science degree in clinical investigation at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, MD.
Dr. Milstone’s research interests focus on the prevention of hospital acquired infections in children. He studies the prevalence and transmission of multidrug-resistant bacteria in hospitalized children and tests interventions to prevent their spread and reduce hospital-acquired infections. He is leading a multicenter clinical trial to determine whether bathing children in the intensive care unit with chlorhexidine can reduce nosocomial infections and transmission of multidrug-resistant organisms. Dr. Milstone also has on-going projects to determine whether new rapid diagnostic tests will enable early access to therapy and reduce transmission of viruses between hospitalized children.
