Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Meddings is a practicing general internal medicine physician and health services researcher at the University of Michigan Health System. She received her medical degree from the University of Michigan, and completed her residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the Ohio State University Medical Center and Nationwide Children's Hospital. She obtained her Master's in Health and Health Care Research at the University of Michigan. Her research focuses on the impact of quality improvement programs (including pay-for-performance and patient safety initiatives) on the care of patients with chronic and complex illness. She is also on faculty for the Patient Safety Enhancement Program at the University of Michigan. Much of her recent work has focused on interventions to prevent hospital-acquired catheter-associated urinary tract infections, such as the use of reminder systems to prompt routine removal of unnecessary urinary catheters.
