Biographical Sketch:
Jacco Wallinga is a population biologist who is interested in infection dynamics. He obtained his PhD at Wageningen University, the Netherlands in 1998. Since 1997 he analyzes infectious disease dynamics at the Dutch National Institute of Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). From 2005 onwards he has been heading the research group on modeling infectious disease dynamics. Since 2008 he has a joint appointment at the RIVM’s Centre for Infectious Disease Control, Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit and the University Medical Centre Utrecht, the Netherlands. He is particularly interested in understanding the impact of targeted control measures on the transmission dynamics of infectious agents. He published over 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and is on the editorial board of the journals Epidemiology and Statistical Communications in Infectious Diseases. He advises national governments and intergovernmental organizations on vaccination policies. International collaborations include participation in the Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics, at the Harvard School of Public Health.
