Biographical Sketch:
Tom T. Shimabukuro, MD, MPH, MBA Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Dr. Tom Shimabukuro is the Senior Medical Officer in the Immunization Safety Office at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Prior to his current assignment he was the Pandemic Influenza Vaccine Coordinator in the Immunization Services Division at CDC. During the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic, Dr. Shimabukuro served as the Deputy Director of the CDC’s H1N1 Vaccine Task Force, which was responsible for coordinating CDC’s vaccine response to the influenza pandemic during the 2009-2010 influenza season. Dr. Shimabukuro received his M.D. degree from New York University. He did his internship at Emory University and Preventive Medicine residency at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Shimabukuro previously served as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer at CDC. He also served as the Preventive Medicine Officer for the 42nd Infantry Division, U.S. Army, during Operation Iraqi Freedom III in 2005. He has an M.P.H. and an M.B.A both from Johns Hopkins and is board certified in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine.
