Biographical Sketch:
I am a Senior Scientist and Chief of Clinical Microbiology at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Previously I was Director of Clinical Microbiology and Professor of Pathology and Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis (1976-1999) and Chief of Clinical Microbiology and Professor of Pathology at Univ. of Maryland School of Medicine (1999-2001). I received BS degrees in Biology and Biochemistry from St. Mary's College of California (1965-69), PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from UCLA (1969-1974), and a fellowship in Clinical Microbiology at the Mayo Clinic (1974-76). I have published more than 200 manuscripts and 15 books, served at Editor-in-Chief of the Manual of Clinical Microbiology, Editor of the Journal of Clinical Microbiology, and served on numerous editorial boards, My research has primarily involved development of new diagnostic test methods.
