Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Patterson has 20 years of experience in the area of prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections. This experience includes leadership and participation in many multidisciplinary and interprofessional teams to improve patient safety. She has many publications in the field of healthcare epidemiology, particularly related to the clinical and molecular epidemiology of transmission of hospital pathogens. She has served on national committees for Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America and is on the Board of Directors of the Infectious Disease Society of America. She has trained students, residents, fellows, and nurses in healthcare epidemiology and infection control, and mentored trainees in presentations at national meetings and in publications in the field of healthcare epidemiology and infection control. She is currently directing the UTHSCSA Clinical Safety and Effectiveness course to train clinical leaders in quality improvement and patient safety, and is leading a project in interprofessional education.
