Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Pavia is George and Esther Gross Presidential Professor and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center. He also serves as Director of Hospital Epidemiology at Primary Children's Medical Center. He is a member of the National Vaccine Advisory Committee and Chair of the Vaccine Safety Working Group. He is a member of the Board of Directors the Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA) and Chair of the Pandemic Influenza Task Force and past Chair of the National and Global Public Policy Committee. He is also a member of the National Biodefense Science Board (NBSB) and chairs the Influenza Working Group and co-chairs the Personal Preparedness Working Group of the NBSB. He serves as a member of the Governor’s Emergency Preparedness Advisory Committee for the State of Utah and has been a consultant for CDC on a number of issues. Dr. Pavia served on the Institute of Medicine Committee: “Antivirals for Pandemic Influenza: Guidance on Developing and Distribution and Dispensing System." He received his undergraduate degree and M.D. at Brown University. He trained in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Dartmouth and the University of Utah, did an Infectious Disease Fellowship at the University of Utah and trained in Public Health Epidemiology as an EIS officer and a Preventive Medicine Resident at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
