Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Woeltje joined the Washington University School of Medicine Infectious Diseases Division in 2004. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine, and the Medical Director of Infection Prevention for BJC HealthCare. Dr. Woeltje received his MD and PhD degrees from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He did his residency in Internal Medicine and his fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and the Washington University School of Medicine. After a year as Medicine Chief Resident at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Dr. Woeltje joined the faculty at the Medical College of Georgia. He served there as Hospital Epidemiologist until returning to Washington University. Dr. Woeltje’s research interests are in the epidemiology and control of healthcare associated infections. In particular he is interested in the application of medical informatics tools to automated surveillance. He is also very involved with BJC HealthCare and Washington University in developing preparedness plans for emerging infectious diseases.
