Biographical Sketch: Professor Barry Cookson is Director of the Laboratory of Healthcare Associated Infection of the Health Protection Agency and holds visiting Professorships at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Imperial College, London University. He is a Care Quality Commission Associate and very active nationally and internationally in related research and multi-disciplinary approaches to improving infection control and antibiotic prescribing practices, He has over 300 publications and has attracted grants to the value of over £13m. He is an ECDC and WHO consultant and member of the English Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare Associated Infection and the UK Veterinary Products Committee. He was a member of the Rapid Review Panel for four years and more recently was an expert to the DoH on how to advise on their grade 2 products.
