Summary: Care provided in ambulatory settings has expanded dramatically. Infection prevention in this environment is challenging due to the large volume and rapid turnover of patients, the increasing proportion of high-risk patients care for in these settings, the potential for inadequate policies and procedures to prevent transmission of pathogens, and limited capacity for surveillance.
Learning Objectives: - Discuss strategies for surveillance of process and outcome indicators in ambulatory care
- Describe the assessment of key infection control policies and practices in ambulatory surgery centers
- Identify interventions to reduce procedure-associated and infusion-associated infections in ambulatory care
