Registration Code: W2
Type: Workshops
Summary: This workshop will provide the latest information on optimizing stewardship programs in special populations (e.g. dialysis and oncology patients) including settings with limited infection prevention resources. In addition, attendees will receive important updates on the relevant microbiology lab methods, therapeutic dosing approaches changes, and clinical information systems that will assist them in advancing their antimicrobial stewardship efforts.
Learning Objectives: - Describe approaches to stewardship in challenging patient populations: oncology, transplant, and intensive care units
- Describe approaches to stewardship in environments with limited infectious diseases resources
- Describe methods to integrate stewardship activities with the microbiology lab: antimicrobial susceptibility reporting, rapid diagnostic testing, and work up of specimens
- Describe alternative approaches to antimicrobial dosing strategies to prevent resistance, treat highly resistant organisms, and decrease antimicrobial expenses
- Discuss the pros and cons of commercial and “home-grown” clinical information tools in assisting antimicrobial stewardship activities
