Summary: This symposium is intended to give an overview of areas of controversy and challenge in surveillance for and prevention of SSIs. Content experts will review new guidelines on antimicrobial prophylaxis with a focus on unique aspects of ambulatory care surgical procedures. Presenters will explore the data supporting many standard operating room prevention practices and identify controversies in evidence. This session will identify challenges and opportunities for measurement and process improvement that can advance prevention of infection.

- Analyze current changes to surgical prophylaxis recommendations
- Define the evidence supporting use of laminar airflow, masks, and surgical scrubs for prevention of SSIs
