Summary: Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) remains a difficult HAI to track and prevent because of different surveillance methods, diagnostic performance and utilization, and an incomplete understanding of all sources of transmission. Subject experts will provide an overview of how CDI surveillance and diagnosis method impact CDI incidence, potential underappreciated sources of C. difficile transmission, and the impact large scale prevention efforts have had on CDI incidence.
Learning Objectives: - Compare the impact different surveillance methodologies and methods to diagnosing CDI can have on CDI incidence
- Identify potential sources of C. difficile acquisition in healthcare facilities and in the community
- Define the implementation and impact of a large scale CDI prevention project
