Summary: This session will provide discussion of the conceptual framework of what electronic surveillance can and cannot do and desirable features and potential pitfalls of commercial software to consider when evaluating various infection control support software systems. Commercial products will not be directly compared but examples from current evaluations of computer assisted programs will be used to illustrate key points and aid learners in evaluation opportunities in their own institutions.
