Summary: This workshop will provide users of the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) with hands-on experience to improve skills with the analysis capabilities of the NHSN web-based system. Participants will use their own laptops and use a demonstration copy of NHSN to be guided through exercises, such as using subsetting data, setting limits on control charts, creating output report sets, exporting datasets, and interpreting results.
Learning Objectives: Requirements for Participation: In order to attend this workshop, each participant must: • Be an authorized user of the NHSN Reporting application and have an active digital certificate or a SAMS user ID and password for NHSN Reporting. • Bring a laptop with wireless internet capability and be able to access NHSN from their laptop. Verify laptop compatibility prior to registering for this workshop. NOTE: Only wireless internet service will be provided during the workshop. Registered individuals who do not meet these requirements will not be able to participate!
- Apply NHSN analytical functions to case-scenarios to illustrate analysis features and identify problems within a reporting facility
- Identify longitudinal analysis features of NHSN that will enhance understanding of the data, including use of a statistical calculator and control charts
- Explain how various metrics obtained from NHSN can be interpreted
