Summary: The relative benefit of interventions aimed at the control of specific nosocomial pathogens versus those focused on prevention of infection in specific patient populations remains unresolved. In this plenary session, faculty will define two approaches and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each. The speakers will outline practical issues associated with implementing such approaches in healthcare settings.
